Denver Likely to Be Cool to Obama

By    |   Tuesday, 27 September 2011 01:00 PM EDT

President Barack Obama likely won’t be feeling the love when he promotes his jobs plan in a speech at a Denver high school Tuesday afternoon.

Obama may have won an impressive nine percentage point upset victory over Republican John McCain in the state’s 2008 presidential election, but he’s not so revered these days, Politico reports.

Independents now see Obama as just another Washington politician. Support for the tea party has grown, helped by a state unemployment rate of 8.5 percent. And Latinos’ love for the president is waning, thanks to his decision to hold off on immigration reform.

“A repeat of 2008 is very unlikely. . . . I’d say he’s looking at a high-wire act here,” said former Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter, who campaigned with the Obamas in Colorado shortly before the 2008 election.
