Undocumented immigrants can be tested for coronavirus without fear of arrest or deportation, President Donald Trump said on Sunday, The Hill reported.

Due to the president’s emphasis in office on clamping down on immigration and warning of how migrants endanger society, Trump was asked if undocumented immigrants could be tested without being afraid of repercussions.

"The answer is yes, we will do those tests," Trump said during a White House briefing. "Because I think it’s important we test that person, and we don’t want to send that person back into wherever we’re going to be sending that person."

At the briefing, Vice President Mike Pence said that, except in exceptional circumstances, agents will not target emergency rooms or health clinics to look for undocumented immigrants, according to guidelines issued by that Customs and Border Protection.

Trump had initially deferred the question to Surgeon General Jerome Adams, who said it is important from a public health perspective that everyone with symptoms should be tested, emphasizing that the virus "doesn't judge based on where you're from," Yahoo reported.

Experts in public health have insisted on expanded coronavirus testing so that officials can better identify who needs to quarantine in order to slow down the spread of the disease, according to The Hill.
