Conservative students seeking to create a political activism group at Roger Williams University were told this week they will not receive official recognition from the progressive liberal arts school in Rhode Island.
And the Young Americans for Freedom club believes the rejection is a case of the liberals trying to quash their voices.
The club planned to host patriotic and free speech events, hold educational forums on the U.S. Constitution and invite well-known conservatives to speak on campus, The College Fix reports.
But a student government subcommittee unanimously rejected the group's bid, saying its ideology was too similar to the RWU College Republicans, which is already approved.
YAF spokeswoman Emily Jashinsky told The College Fix's Jennifer Kabbany the group will fight the decision.
"As the public increases pressure on schools to treat conservative students fairly, the Left is leveraging bureaucracy to more subtly discriminate against YAF activists," she said.
"This case at Roger Williams is a good example of that trend. Young America's Foundation will not accept this outcome and is actively working with students to ensure they're able to operate a YAF chapter on campus."
