Here's a Clinton who's not
dead broke.
Chelsea Clinton pulled down $600,000 a year as a special correspondent for NBC News,
Politico reported.
Clinton, 34, has since switched to a month-to-month contract so the arrangement can be easily suspended in the event that Clinton's mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, runs for president, Politico reported, citing people familiar with the agreement it didn't identify.
Journalism professionals wasted no time venting on Twitter.
The daughter of former President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton debuted in December 2011 on NBC's "Rock Center with Brian Williams." Television critics roundly panned the network's rollout of another political heir with no background or training in journalism.
Others saw proof of the mainstream media's coziness with political dynasties. The reviews didn't improve over time.
"Williams and Clinton started out saying she was going to shine a spotlight on people whose stories otherwise wouldn't be told … she ended up on 'Rock Center' interviewing Judy Blume, the Geico Gecko and Stella McCartney in her last three appearances," Baltimore Sun television critic David Zurawick wrote in a
June 2013 obituary for the canceled TV news magazine.
Representatives for Clinton and NBC declined to comment on her salary, but a network spokesman told Politico, "NBC News continues to enjoy a wonderful working relationship with Chelsea, and we are proud of her work."
