President Donald Trump must not go along with daughter Ivanka's support for the Paris climate change agreement, climate expert Dr. Duane Thresher wrote in a letter.
"Climate treaties like the Paris agreement have little to do with climate. They are about economic competition," Thresher wrote in an open letter to Trump published by Breitbart News.
"As the greatest economy in the history of the world, other countries will do anything to cripple the United States."
Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, a special adviser to the White House, along with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, have urged Trump to keep the U.S. in the Paris climate accord, a global deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions, according to Bloomberg.
Thresher said that China would ignore any obligations in the accord "while demanding the United States fulfill theirs."
He also pointed out Trump's campaign promises about addressing climate change, which Thresher called a "popular delusion."
"We who voted for you consider stopping this climate change madness one of your key promises. If you renege on it, you will lose me and many others as supporters," Thresher wrote.
Thresher urged Trump to keep politics out of climate science. "Climate science is one of the most fascinating sciences there is. To turn it into a lie for political purposes is a crime."
The expert has stated his opposition to climate change before, calling it "mathematically impossible for climate models to predict climate," because they can only predict 10 days into the future, according to a Breitbart report.
