NJ Gov. Christie, NYC Mayor Bloomberg Feud Over 9/11

Friday, 19 August 2011 09:18 AM EDT

Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie lobbed a few choice words at New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in criticism of how he has organized the 10th anniversary events to commemorate the 9/11 attacks at lower Manhattan’s ground zero, the New York Post reported.

Christie reportedly labeled Bloomberg a “putz,” a “dictator,” and “Napoleon” for excluding former New Jersey Gov. Donald DiFrancesco, who served during the attacks, from the roster of invited speakers.

In response, Bloomberg invited the former governor to speak at a 9/11 ceremony, and maintained that DiFrancesco initially had not been invited simply because he had not asked.

Christie interpreted Bloomberg’s organization of 9/11 events as excluding representation by the Port Authority, which owned the twin towers and lost dozen of employees, including its executive director, in the attacks, the Post reported.

"September 11 is a very serious thing to this organization and the people here. They should be represented," a Christie rep said.
