Former Army Intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning attempted suicide Wednesday, CNN reports.

The news network, attributing the information to her legal team, said she was recovering.

"Chelsea Manning attempted to take her own life," her legal team said in a statement. "She was taken to a hospital and is currently recovering."

The news network reported Alexandria, Virginia, Sheriff Dana Lawhorne confirmed there was an incident at the jail involving Manning. However, he did not provide additional details.

She has been detained since May for not testifying before a grand jury about her disclosure of military and diplomatic secrets to WikiLeaks in 2010.

Manning was convicted in 2013 of leaking classified materials to WikiLeaks, and served seven years of a 35-year sentence before then-President Barack Obama commuted her sentence in 2017.
