Former Idaho state Rep. Brandon Hixon died Tuesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Canyon County officials told the Idaho Statesman.
Hixon, R-Caldwell, age 36, resigned from his seat last fall after news broke that he was the subject of a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual abuse. His body was found by a family member in his home Tuesday morning. The coroner ruled the death a suicide.
"Former Rep. Brandon Hixon has tragically taken his own life. Our thoughts go first to family and friends who are suffering from this loss," Idaho House Speaker Scott Bedke announced to the rest of the House on Tuesday, according to The Spokesman-Review.
"We should … support those who are close to us when they are struggling. Please remember Brandon's family in your prayers."
