Officer Shot in Marathon Showdown Wants to Work

Sunday, 19 May 2013 06:05 PM EDT

With a bullet still in his body, the police officer who survived a showdown with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects says he's determined to return to duty.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Officer Richard Donahue says he's getting stronger day by day after surviving a gunshot that severed his femoral artery.

If it turns out his injury is from friendly police fire, Donahue says he's just glad police "got the job done" after the chaotic showdown with the suspects in Watertown, Mass.

That encounter resulted in the death of 26-year-old suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Police captured his 19-year-old brother hiding nearby hours later.

Donahue also said Sunday he'd like to see authorities charge the 19-year-old in connection with the death of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Officer Sean Collier and his own injury.
