An electronic billboard in Idaho compares President Barack Obama to Aurora movie massacre suspect James Holmes and attempts to connect the suspect’s killings and Obama’s foreign policy.
The board in Caldwell juxtaposes photos of Holmes, accused of killing 12 in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater last week, with Obama.
According to the
Idaho Statesman, around Holmes’ picture the board reads: “Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out,” and around Obama’s it says: “Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize.”
The Ralph Smeed Foundation, which owns the board, said it wants to draw attention to military men and women dying overseas, according to Idaho’s KBOI News.
One commuter who saw the sign told the Statesman the board was “way, way out of line” and “offensive,” adding, “I don’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat, it was just beyond bad taste.”
"(It's) way over the line, and I am not an Obama supporter," Lynn Davis Hathaway, said on the KBOI Facebook page.
Ashley Helton, who also commented on Facebook, agreed with the group, which said everyone has a right to their opinion. "It's a free country, this group has a right to voice their opinion no matter what anyone thinks about it," Helton wrote, according to KBOI.
