Legislation has been introduced to give back pay to the 4,000 Federal Aviation Administration employees who were furloughed for two weeks as a result of the partial shutdown of the agency. However, with Congress on recess the employees won’t see the money until at least September,
The Washington Post reported.
“For the past two weeks it was important to get these workers back on the job,” Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo, R-N.J., said according to the Post.
“Now my focus is to get them back pay and to ensure this avoidable situation never happens again.”
LoBiondo’s bill would pull the back wages from the federal Aviation Trust Fund for the workers who were sidelined after Congress failed to extend FAA funding. LoBiondo received bipartisan support for the bill, the Post reported.
