Veterans of Army's Big Red One Muster in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Big Red One is mustering in Buffalo.

Veterans of the 1st Infantry Division are gathering in western New York for the storied Army's unit's 93rd annual reunion.

The Buffalo News reports (http://bit.ly/qJd1U3 ) that some 750 veterans and guests are attending the reunion. They include old soldiers from the World War II era, Vietnam, the first Gulf War and veterans of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Active duty members of the division are also attending.

The 1st Infantry Division was formed in 1917, during World War I, when it was the first Army division to engage the Germans in France. During the Second World War, the division made amphibious landings in Northern Africa, Sicily and Normandy.

The reunion began Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
