Rep. Daniel E. Lungren (R-Calif.) has lost his seat to the Democratic challenger Ami Bera, in a Sacramento congressional seat that had been too close to call.
As of Thursday night, Bera had a lead of more than 5,700 votes as officials continued counting 70,000 provisional and absentee ballots this week.
The Associated Press called the race Thursday night in favor of Bera.
As of today, Bera had 51.11 percent of the vote compared to Lungren’s 48.89 percent, according to the AP.
Bera has been in Washington as part of orientation week for new House lawmakers, a process Lungren oversees as chairman of the Hosue Administration Committee. Bera and other candidates in races that were too close to call attended orientation week -- just in case.
Bera is the latest in a number of races around the country that are yet uncalled: Arizona, California, Florida, North Carolina and Utah all have congressional races still under count.
