HBO is tackling last year's deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap on Friday.
The premium cable network is developing a movie on the attack based on the book "Under Fire: The Untold Story of the Attack in Benghazi," which was published last month.
Jerry Weintraub, whose Liberace biopic for the network, "Behind the Candelabra," has received a clutch of Emmy nominations, will be executive producer of the project.
The book, by Fred Burton and Samuel M. Katz, draws from eyewitness accounts and confidential sources in the intelligence, diplomatic, and military communities, providing a minute-by-minute narrative of the ordeal suffered by ambassador Christopher Stevens and information agent Sean Smith, who were killed in the attack, as well as the CIA security specialists who attempted to rescue them.
