President Donald Trump will not be visiting his New Jersey golf club this weekend, Politico reports.
Trump was scheduled to head to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. on Friday afternoon.
The White House did not provide a reason for the president’s change in plans, according to Politico.
Trump was under heat after announcing he planned to visit his private club and would not adhere to the mandatory 14-day quarantine imposed on travelers coming from states with coronavirus spikes.
Trump visited Arizona on Tuesday, which has seen an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
White House spokesman Judd Deere defended Trump saying, “the president of the United States is not a civilian."
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said he supported Trump’s planned visit.
“The president is deemed to be in the essential workforce category and therefore he is welcome to New Jersey," Murphy said during a Friday news conference. "There was no either private or public signal from us otherwise.”
A senior official in the Murphy administration told Politico the governor’s office did not speak with the White House about the quarantine order and was not informed of why the president changed his mind on visiting.
This is the second time Trump canceled a plan trip to Bedminster. He bailed on a trip in early June amid national protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd. It is unclear if he canceled this trip due to a surge in coronavirus cases in several states.
