The mother of the 2-1/2-year-old girl whose remains were found on a Boston Harbor beach three months ago was ordered held on $1 million bail on Monday, while her boyfriend was ordered held without bail.
The couple, Rachelle Bond, 40, and Michael McCarthy, 35, were arraigned on murder charges in Dorchester Municipal Court after authorities announced their arrest last week. Prosecutors said they believe McCarthy killed the toddler while Bond helped hide the murder after the fact.
The child's name was Bella Bond.
A woman walking her dog found the body stuffed into a plastic bag in June, prompting police to launch a billboard campaign featuring a computer image of what the girl may have looked like in life. She quickly became known as "Baby Doe."
McCarthy was recently hospitalized for an unrelated medical condition, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said last week. The child's father has been identified, said Conley, who declined to disclose his name.
McCarthy and Bond's next court appearance is Oct. 20.
