Axelrod: Job Package Needs to Stay Whole

Tuesday, 13 September 2011 10:32 AM EDT

President Barack Obama's top political adviser David Axelrod makes it sound as if the president will be very reluctant to break up his $447 billion jobs plan if Republicans are only willing to accept certain parts of it.

obs package obama"We're not in a negotiation to break up the package. It's not an a la carte menu. It's a strategy to get this country moving,” Axelrod told ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday,  The Hill reports.

"The president has a package. The package works together. We need to do many things to get this economy moving.”

But pundits suggest Obama is going to have to change his tune if he wants to see any parts of the bill pass the Republican-controlled House. Republicans won’t support all the program’s spending increases, and they certainly won’t support a tax increase on wealthy Americans to finance the proposals, as Obama recommends.
