ATLANTA — Students return to school this week in Atlanta as the district grapples with the fallout from a widespread cheating scandal that led to more than 100 educators being removed from classrooms less than a month before classes started.
Come Monday, teachers and parents are hoping that students will be focused on one thing — learning. Superintendent Erroll Davis wrote in a message to parents that the district is "truly focused on educating today's children for tomorrow's world."
An investigation released in July revealed cheating in nearly half of the district 100 schools by more than 170 educators.
About 40 of them have quit or retired. The rest have been removed from classrooms and put on paid leave until the district can hold hearings.
