Getting high in Alaska may be legal — but it can't be done at unlicensed pot parties.

Alaska Attorney General Jahna Lindemuth has determined that marijuana social clubs — which have grown like weeds since The Last Frontier State legalized the drug in 2014 — are against the law.

"If that place is not a licensed retail marijuana store, consuming marijuana there is unlawful," Lindemuth said, according to the Alaska Dispatch News.

The opinion applies only to unlicensed marijuana social clubs, officials said.

The Dispatch News reports the state is drawing up new rules for "on-site consumption areas, akin to a marijuana cafe or bar, which would exist within a licensed marijuana retail store."

Alaska was the third state to have legalized marijuana use, following Colorado and Washington.

Under Alaska law, users cannot legally have more than 1 ounce of marijuana on them. They are also prohibited from harvesting more than four ounces at home, smoking in public or driving while high.
