Actor Gary Sinise, best known for his role as Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump," received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday.
The Golden Globe winner, Oscar nominee and longtime military supporter spends his free time touring military bases around the world and performing with the Lt. Dan band. He received praise Monday from the Department of Defense and military members.
"I am here to represent the thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who know and adore Gary for his commitment to supporting and serving our nation's sons and daughters who defend and protect our country's way of life," four-star Gen. Robin Rand said at the ceremony.
Sinise said he was surprised by the honor.
"A little bit surreal," Sinise told Variety. "But certainly very nice and flattered and honored."
