The Delaware abortion clinic owned and operated by convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell will reopen as an emergency food pantry and support center for low-income families.
The building in Wilmington, Del., was purchased last year by Lutheran Community Services to be used for its new headquarters, which was previously the Atlantic Women's Medical Services, with the hope that the former abortion clinic can be a force for good,
Fox News reported.
"It's going to be a place of hope and life," said Jean Warren, executive director with the organization.
The Philadelphia abortion doctor worked at the Delaware location once a week, where he would start late-term abortions, which are illegal in the First State, and finish them at his clinic in West Philadelphia.
Gosnell was
convicted of first-degree murder in May 2013 for the deaths of three babies that he killed by "snipping" their necks after they were born alive. He is serving life in prison.
He was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the death of a woman who died from a drug overdose while undergoing an abortion.
However, none of his convictions were due to incidents that took place at the Delaware clinic.
The conviction has lead
anti-abortion activists and lawmakers to push for more stringent
regulations on abortion clinics.
The Atlantic Women's Medical Services was closed by authorities in 2011.
