A new anti-Trump group has sprung up over the last week claiming without evidence that scores of former George W. Bush administration staffers will be voting for Joe Biden.

The talking heads are predictably lapping it up, while organizers have repeatedly balked at answering questions about Biden and the Democrats’ policy agenda.

I had the privilege of serving in President Bush’s administration.

I continue to have great affection for the former president and many of my colleagues, but this effort is as hypocritical, disingenuous, and vacuous as a Don Lemon rant on CNN.

What these alleged Republicans don’t understand is something Bush knows all too well.

The American presidency isn’t about one man.

It’s about principles and policies that protect and enhance freedom.

It’s about looking at the big picture, not just the smallball of Washington insider politics between hacks, flaks and nominal political consultants.

With Trump maintaining a 92% approval rating in the Republican Party, according to the latest Gallup survey, the organizers have not only abandoned their party but their former boss as well.

What is particularly offensive about this upstart effort is how organizers wrap themselves in the Bush legacy to advance a radical agenda that bears no resemblance to George W. Bush’s values or the ideas that we worked so hard to further during his eight years in office.

Like President Trump, George W. Bush cut taxes. Joe Biden wants to raise them.

George W. Bush defended life. Joe Biden supports taxpayer-funded abortions and today’s Democratic Party has doubled down on grotesque late-term abortions.

George W. Bush understood the incalculable importance of faith and faith communities have in the life of the nation. The Obama-Biden administration assaulted freedom of religion and the rights of conscience unlike any other presidential administration in history.

A Biden presidency would give an even greater voice to the secular-humanists and moral relativism that already have tremendous influence over today’s Democratic Party.

George W. Bush believed in protecting the Second Amendment. Joe Biden wants Beto O’Rourke to lead the charge on a spate of new gun laws.

George W. Bush believed in empathy for immigrants.

There’s a big difference between that and Biden’s policy of sanctuary cities from coast to coast or decriminalizing illegal border crossings.

George W. Bush supported innovation in education and school choice. Joe Biden, beholden to the teacher’s unions, supports killing charter schools despite their proven positive impact particularly in communities of color. Biden has also adopted Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s so-called "free college" entitlement program that will eviscerate private higher education, embolden government-run colleges and put the leftist indoctrination complex on steroids.

George W. Bush understood that we are in a multi-generational struggle against terrorism and authoritarianism that creates a dangerous freedom deficit in parts of the world.

The Obama-Biden administration deconstructed the Bush foreign policy and allowed ISIS, Iran, an imperial Russia, and Communist China to advance their aims completely unabated. Biden was the architect of the Iran Nuclear Deal, which likely helped inject billions of dollars into Islamic terror networks.

George W. Bush believed that we could protect our environment while protecting American jobs and maintaining a strong economy. Joe Biden supports the farcical, Sanders-AOC-backed Green New Deal, which would crater the economy, kill millions of jobs and tie our nation’s fortunes to the Paris Climate Accord.

George W. Bush honored our police officers. Democrats have declared war on them.

George W. Bush was principled. He knew who he was and what he believed in. Joe Biden has taken virtually every stand on every issue. Now, he’s adopted the policies of the far-left wing of his party.

George W. Bush was a decent and honorable man. Joe Biden has a history of self-dealing, lying with impunity to the public, and attempting to cover it up that stretches back decades.

During a recent interview on NewsmaxTV’s "The Chris Salcedo Show," John Farner a spokesperson for the nascent Bush-Biden group suggested that a Biden presidency would make us a more compassionate nation. The whole notion is as naïve as it is absurd.

There is nothing compassionate about the liberal agenda. It’s not compassionate to lock communities of color in decades of government dependency. What we’re seeing on the streets of America’s cities is the result of fifty years of failed liberal education, economic, housing, criminal justice and welfare policy.

The Democratic Party’s compassionate response?

Blame Trump, foment riots and declare war on cops resulting in more death and destruction. It’s not compassionate to take more of people’s money for faceless, feckless government programming or to further weaponize government, as was done during the Obama-Biden administration.

It’s not compassionate to create a culture of fear that infringes on freedom of expression.

Joe Biden leads a Democratic Party that today is a driving force behind cancel culture, banning books, demonizing cops, secularization, revisionist history, and politically correct labels that drive division. Its officials serve as apologists for vandals and violent movements that thrive on hate and destruction. With a ravenous, divisive social media culture and with the press as their co-conspirators, they relish castigating dissenters, getting people fired and destroying their reputations for their beliefs.

There are a lot of people, myself included, who at times have a problem with the current President’s Twitter feed, his tonality, and even his strategy. The constant combativeness often obscures and impedes progress on important policy objectives. Few would credibly argue that point.

However, putting style over substance at this time in our history, particularly when faced with the growing resources, infrastructure, power and influence of the far left, is inherently dangerous.

Despite differences in tone, the record is plain that Donald Trump, like him or not, has governed more in line with the values and principles of George W. Bush at a time when America needs to stand up against forces aimed at "remaking" this country into something foreign to anyone who cherishes our formula for greatness.
