Is Zayn Malik seriously considering a run for office? The former One Direction pop star seems to think it could be a "cool" idea and he may just give it a go.
The revelation emerged in an interview with GQ during which Malik spoke about his recent move to the U.S.
He admitted that at first it was a bit of a culture shock but as he slowly got used to his new home, he realized that the country may be inaccurately portrayed.
"I feel like it's misrepresented across the globe," he said. "For the kind of country it is, because everybody supports, no matter what color, what gender, what sexuality, what class—none of that matters here. People genuinely want to know you for who you are. And that's how America should be represented across the world."
Malik admitted that Oprah had his full support should she decide to run for office and, when asked if he would ever entertain the thought of a political run himself, he did not dismiss the notion.
"Maybe. It'd be cool," he said. "I feel like it's a beautiful place. … People are expressing how they really feel about where they come from and their heritage and their backgrounds. They're all mixed. To be American, you are mixed."
Earlier this year WWD reported that Malik had moved into a pricey new bachelor pad in New York City.
The four-bedroom apartment was valued at $10.7 million but the exuberant price tag was dulled by the fact that Malik splashed out on it days after allegedly calling it quits with Gigi Hadid.
Their two-year on-again off-again relationship has been a source of much speculation but in his interview to GQ, Malik addressed the topic.
"We're adults. We don't need to put a label on it, make it something for people's expectations," he said.
Hadid has been less vocal about things with Malik but she has had her fair share of criticism to field, which could explain the silence.
Recently, the model came under fire after appearing on the latest Vogue Italia cover, which drew backlash from fans accusing the publication of digitally altering the model's looks to such an extreme that it looked as if she had a "black face."
