William Shatner Flies to LA but Misses Leonard Nimoy's Service

William Shatner missed a memorial service for his "Star Trek" co-star Leonard Nimoy by hours on Sunday after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport at noon.

The memorial service for Nimoy – Spock from the hit television show that spun off a motion picture franchise – was held Sunday morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After Nimoy's death, Shatner had defended his decision to keep a charity event date in Florida rather than attend the service.

Shatner attended an event for the American Red Cross in Palm Beach the night before the funeral, The New York Post reported. Shatner's plane touched down at 11:30 a.m. in Los Angeles. Nimoy's private memorial service started at 9 a.m.

Nimoy died Friday at 83 of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at his home in Bel-Air.

Shatner tried to answer fans' questions and blunt criticism by taking to Twitter.

Shatner reportedly took exception to a New York Daily News headline that called him "Captain Jerk" for not making Nimoy's services.

"Certainly, the negotiator can find a reasonable rate on Priceline.com," noted the Daily News, referring to Shatner as a longtime spokesman of the discount travel website.
