William Shatner may return to the Enterprise in "Star Trek 3," and although his course hasn’t been charted yet, he's reportedly set to meet with the movie’s director, Roberto Orci.

Shatner played Star Trek’s much-loved Capt. James T. Kirk for the television series. It’s unclear how he might fit into the movies, where Chris Pine is playing Kirk. His character also died in "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

J.J. Abrams, producer and director of the first two "Star Trek" movies, told Shatner previously that Orci had an idea of how Shatner might be incorporated into the next movie. At the time, The Associated Press said, Shatner, 83, said he would consider a meaningful role in "Star Trek 3," something "that had something to do with the turning of the plot.”

Shatner has moved on past his "Star Trek" role, though millions of fans still see him as the only Kirk. He produces "The Shatner Project" for the DIY Network and has designed a motorcycle, a clothing line, and a new comic book. In addition, he’s in three upcoming films.

"Ask him about retirement and he says, 'What does retiring mean? It means you want to step back from what you're doing and do something else that's more interesting," the AP said. "With a smile, Shatner adds, 'I'm in the middle of such a fertile, febrile fantasy that anybody would wish for what I'm doing.'"

Orci had said at one time that he didn’t see a role for Shatner in the movie.

"Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller,” Orci posted on a fan forum at TrekMovie.com. “Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way.”
