Wendy Williams Faints During Live Halloween Special

By    |   Tuesday, 31 October 2017 02:03 PM EDT

Wendy Williams fainted on Tuesday during a live Halloween taping of her talk show while dressed up as the Statue of Liberty.

At about 48 minutes into the broadcast, Williams started to announce the show’s “How You Doin’ Halloween Costume Contest” when she began to slur her words and fell down on stage, People reported.

The show cut to a commercial while the staff ran to help her. When the show returned from break six minutes later, Williams had regained consciousness and explained to the audience that she had passed out because of the heat from the lights and her heavy costume and makeup.

“That was not a stunt,” she said. “I’m overheated in my costume and I did pass out. But you know what, I’m a champ, and I’m back!” The audience cheered.

Later, a rep for the show told The Hollywood Reporter, “Wendy is feeling much better . . . She was able to finish the show in true Wendy spirit. She will address the incident on tomorrow’s show.”

Earlier in the show, Williams had said that she wasn’t thrilled about dressing up, according to People.

“This is so not my holiday, I am doing this under duress,” she said. “All kinds of freaks and weirdos walking around. There’s nothing worse than adults in costumes.”

Twitter users later tweeted about the incident and wished Williams well.
