"The President Show," a parody talk show starring President Donald Trump impersonator Anthony Atamanuik, will kick off on Comedy Central on April 27 at 11:30 p.m. after "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah."
Peter Grosz will costar as Atamanuik's side kick, Vice President Mike Pence, Deadline.com noted. The series will be executive produced by comedian and actor Adam Pally, of the Fox series "Making History."
"Laughing at the president is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department," Atamanuik said in a Comedy Central statement. "But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy.
"Mostly I'd just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we're lucky, end up in prison," Atamanuik added jokingly.
The Los Angeles Times wrote that the show will include many of the standard elements seen in late night shows, including guest interviews, desk segments, and field pieces, skewed to Atamanuik's Trump persona.
"In the world of 'The President Show,' Trump is bypassing the crooked media by hosting a late-night show direct from the Oval Office," the Comedy Central statement said. "No unfair questions from reporters, no awkward photo ops with German ladies, and no bedtimes. Just a fun show where he can put his unique Trumpian spin on such late-night staples as desk segments, field pieces and guest interviews."
The Los Angeles Times reported that Comedy Central teased the show last Wednesday during "The Daily Show" with a fake hack pointing viewers to a Russian website that now redirects visitors to "The President Show's" Twitter feed.
Deadline.com wrote that Atamanuik honed his Trump chops during a nationwide, 40-city "Trump vs. Bernie" tour, as well as in debate and sketch specials for Fusion. His album, "Trump Vs. Bernie: Live From Brooklyn," debuted at No. 1 on iTunes.
