A United Airlines flight made an emergency landing as it was headed for Houston from Liberia, Costa Rica, on Monday.

The emergency landing came after one of the plane's engines overheated, according to Fox News.

The plane left from Daniel Oduber International Airport and was right back landing about two hours later, Time magazine noted.

"We circled over the ocean for an hour to burn fuel before landing," passenger Jody Genessy said on Twitter. "I fly a lot. This was the most frightening thing I’ve ever experienced."

Genessy said the plane "about crashed in an emergency landing before the pilot quickly pulled up. So scary."

Fire Supervisor of Costa Rica Leonel Jimenez said the airport was put on alert 3 prior to the landing.

"It comes with an emergency overheating in an engine, the units are waiting," Jimenez said in a statement.

"What I have is a United 737-800 aircraft, which is being maintained in Liberia’s airspace, is burning fuel to safely land again," said Enio Cubillo, director of Civil Aviation told local news, according to Time. "At the moment he is holding to burn enough fuel to land safely."

The incident comes just weeks after law enforcement yanked a paying passenger from his seat on a United Airlines flight before dragging him off the plane.

The incident was caught on video, which sparked mass outrage from millions of people across the globe.
