Tucker Carlson will be replacing Greta Van Susteren as host of “On The Record” for Fox News. He takes over on Nov. 14.
Carlson, a 47-year-old conservative commentator, is a Fox veteran and founder of the Daily Caller, a website offering news and opinions from a conservative perspective.
He is the first major news hire since Roger Ailes, the network’s former chairman, was ousted after sexual harassment allegations against him surfaced, said the Chicago Tribune.
Brit Hume, who took over as the interim host for the 7 p.m. program after Susteren left in September, announced on Thursday that Carlson will be taking over as the permanent host, reported Politico.
Carlson joined Fox in 2009 after spending some time at CNN and MSNBC. He’s currently co-hosting “Fox & Friends Weekend” as well as appearing as a regular guest on other Fox shows.
According to Politico, Susteren left Fox after she and the network were unable to reach a contractual agreement. Susteren later explained that the network had “not felt like home to me for years,” said The Wrap.
“I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now. The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait,” she said at the time.
Susteren was with the network for 14 years, and had anchored for CNN prior to joining Fox.
“I count Greta a friend and I’m sorry to see her go,” Hume told viewers back when he first stepped in to host her former show temporarily.
The Wrap said the show may not keep the same title when Carlson begins.
