Tom Jones was forced to cancel one show in Britain and postpone another one this week after falling ill with a “bacterial infection,” the BBC News reported. Turns out, he was hospitalized.

Fans were “devastated” and “gutted” when their singing icon cancelled his Wednesday show at Stansted Park and later announced the rescheduling of Thursday’s gig at Chester Racecourse.

In a Twitter post, Sir Tom said cancelling Wednesday’s show was “the worst feeling,” adding that he knew many fans had travelled far to attend the event.

“It is so disappointing when things don’t go right,” he said.

Reps released a separate statement noting that Jones’ condition was being well-managed and they were hoping for a speedy recovery.

Last year Jones was also forced to cancel shows in his U.S. tour after falling ill, The Sun reported.

At the time, he was scheduled to perform 18 concerts between September and October, but the singer had just come off a 26-show tour across the U.K. and Europe and was reportedly suffering from exhaustion.

Some fans suggested that Jones was again likely dealing with burnout from a grueling tour schedule.
