Former “Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller was arrested Monday night on charges he allegedly made false bomb threats while riding an Amtrak train on March 18.
Miller, 36, was charged with “intentionally conveying to law enforcement false information about an explosive device,” CNN reported. He was released Tuesday on $100,000 bond.
The federal charge could mean five years in prison if Miller is convicted.
According to CNN, the U.S. Department of Justice said Miller called a 911 dispatcher in New Jersey on March 18 and said his train, Amtrak 2256 north from Washington, D.C., had a female passenger on it that he said had a “bomb in her bag.”
The train was stopped in Westport, Connecticut, and searched by a bomb squad there after being evacuated. No evidence of explosives was found.
When Miller was contacted by the dispatcher after the search, he gave a different description of the woman, CNN reported.
Miller was actually on train 2258, and that train also was searched and no explosives were found, officials said. An attendant on the train said Miller was intoxicated while on board and had a hostile exchange with a woman in the same section of the train.
Miller was ordered off the train in New York for being intoxicated, NBC News reported.
The accused actor left HBO’s “Silicon Valley” after four seasons last year for creative differences with producers. Miller co-stars in Steven Spielberg’s current sci-fi film release “Ready Player One.”
He did not comment on the arrest to media or on social media Tuesday.
