Think Progress Big: Wishing Roger Ailes Dead

By    |   Monday, 18 August 2014 10:14 AM EDT

Alan Pyke, economics editor of Think Progress, the liberal Center for American Progress' blog, is under fire for his Twitter death wish for Fox News President Roger Ailes.

Pyke on Thursday tweeted, "I hope Roger Ailes dies slow, painful, and soon. The evil that man has done to the American tapestry is unprecedented for an individual."

Ailes' network doesn't normally get much respect from the liberal CAP.

Breitbart.com columnists Alexander Marlow and Stephen K. Bannon are calling for Pyke to resign or be fired.

Pyke deleted his tweet after Brietbart initially called him out on it.

Pyke responded later Thursday, tweeting: "Deleting my hateful Roger Ailes tweet from earlier. Hoping that another human being dies is a [expletive] thing to do, and I'm sorry."

But Marlow and Bannon contend that removing the Twitter post isn't enough, arguing that if a moderate or conservative had done the same thing, he or she would have been reprimanded.

"Did Pyke personally apologize to Ailes for wishing him dead? Or did Pyke apologize for calling Ailes 'evil?'" they wrote.

They note that Pyke still appears to be on the job, tweeting mostly about the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

"[H]e sure seems to be more of an activist than an economist," they said.

CAP President Neera Tanden and the group's board members, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Tom Steyer and George Soros, all bear responsibility, the columnists say, as do corporate donors.

The authors called on Pyke to resign, but admit that won't happen. So they also called on CAP to fire him.
