Texas senators finally are set to allow handguns on college campuses — on the fourth try. Republican state Sen. Jeff Wentworth’s three previous attempts to get the bill through all failed, but now his chances of pushing his bill look good.
State senators agreed to add his concealed weapon amendment to a finance bill that almost certainly will pass through the Senate, reports
The Dallas Morning News.
The decision to include the amendment passed, 21-10, with only Democrats voting against. Most educators oppose the measure, said Democratic Sen. Judith Zaffirini. And the measure also is subject to debate in the House.
Wentworth, who said opinion on campuses is divided, said, “It seems like Groundhog Day since we've already debated this so many times."
