Teddy Geiger made her first transgender red carpet appearance Tuesday at the 2018 BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills since announcing her transition on Instagram last year.
Geiger, who first emerged in 2004 as a VH1 singing reality show star and is now one of the top songwriters in the industry, wore a black dress, black pumps, and glasses at the awards, People magazine reported.
The 29-year-old entertainer has written for Shawn Mendes and Maroon 5, and is credited with co-penning Mendes' hits "Mercy" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back." Geiger was recognized at the ceremony for her role as a songwriter, according to Billboard.
Geiger responded to a comment on Instagram last October and first acknowledged her transition.
"Okay . . . because u (sic) asked nicely . . . I am transitioning," Geiger wrote. "I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process. I feel like the next step is to tell all y'all. So here goes. Love it or hate this is who I have been for a looooong time. I love u guys. Talk sooooon byeeee."
Geiger competed in VH1's reality competition "In Search of the Partridge Family" in 2004 and toured with Hilary Duff. Geiger hit the Top 40 with the single "For You I Will (Confidence)" off the 2006 album "Underage Thinking," People noted.
Geiger found tons of support on Twitter for her first red carpet appearnce since her transition.
