New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez is eying regulation reforms of environmental and construction rules burdensome to small businesses, the
Santa Fe New Mexican reported Monday.
A task force set up by the governor to the review the regulations will look at the best approach to “rescind or revise troublesome” rule and regulations. It will focus on those regulation imposed by the state Environment, Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources, and the Game and Fish departments.
The task force, which has met twice, noted that the environmental and construction industries are the two areas most economically affected by regulation. Its formal report is expected April 1.
"Environmental regulations are costly for all businesses and all New Mexicans," Carol Wight, head of the New Mexico Restaurant Association and task force member told the newspaper. "We need to think through carefully making our laws more stringent than federal laws."
