A tardy passenger was arrested after he tried to break into a departing flight at Melbourne Airport Thursday morning.
The unidentified man, who was late for his Jetstar flight, breached Melbourne Airport security, ran out onto the tarmac, and tried to rip the door open to board the flight, The Australian reported.
The irate passenger allegedly became aggressive with staff after they informed him that he was hours late for his flight to Adelaide.
According to 9News, he then lit up a cigarette inside the airport before bolting toward the nearest gate, where he pushed crew out of his way in his mad dash toward the plane.
Video footage obtained by 9News shows the man try to open the door several times, becoming increasingly flustered with each forcible attempt.
He was eventually restrained by baggage handlers, taken into custody by Australian Federal Police, and charged with one count of unlawful assault of an airline employee.
Recounting the ordeal, a passenger identified as Susan said the flight was preparing for departure when the man came hurtling toward the plane.
"We were sitting waiting to get on the flight and people went 'Oh my god, what is going on?" she said, according to The West Australian.
"This man was trying to get up the stairs, he was physically fighting with the staff, punching and scratching them. The federal police showed up five minutes later and walked him out."
A Jetstar spokesman said the man had assaulted several crew members.
He has since been banned from traveling on all Jetstar and Qantas flights, The Australian noted.
A little closer to home, an unidentified passenger was arrested this week onboard an Alaska Airlines flight after he stripped off his clothes and ran the length of a Boeing 737 naked before two passengers tackled and locked in the restroom for the remainder of the flight from Seattle to Anchorage.
