Officer Tony Carlson was called to the near of the Circle K convenience store, but when he pulled into the gas station parking lot he found a homeless man named Phil trying to shave his beard, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
Phil told Carlson that he had applied for a job at the McDonald's restaurant next door but needed to be clean shave to work there, the newspaper said. The man, though, was having a difficult time with the razor working and he did not have a mirror.
Carlson tightened a screw on the razor and helped Phil shave his beard while unbeknownst to him someone started recording his act of kindness, the Democrat said.
"If he's wanting to help himself, I need to be more than helpful and try to help him out the best I can," Carlson said, according to the Democrat. "Hopefully from this, Phil will get a job."
A local McDonald's spokeswoman told the newspaper Monday as long as Phil's background checks comes back clean and he provides identification, they will hold a spot for him.
Phil told radio talk show post Greg Tish, of WPB-FM, in a video that was posted on Twitter that he was getting his ID and Social Security card so he can work as a janitor at the fast food restaurant.
Carlson won rave reviews on social media.
