Stone: Sandy is Punishment for Lack of Climate Change Talk

By    |   Thursday, 01 November 2012 11:10 AM EDT

Oliver Stone, Academy Award winning director and author of his new series "The Untold History of the United States," has told Huffington Post that Superstorm Sandy was "punishment" for a lack of climate change talk during the presidential election.

"I was a little disappointed at the third debate when neither of them talked about climate control and the nature of the situation on Earth," said Stone. "I think there's kind of a weird statement coming right after...this is a punishment . . . Mother Nature cannot be ignored. That's all I thought about."

While the director said he feels both campaigns could use work in the climate change department, he said President Barack Obama will get his vote in the coming election and predicted that he would win.

Stone also weighed in on legalizing marijuana, saying, "there is nothing harmful in marijuana . . . Stop this nonsense."

His book, "The Untold History of the United States," was released on Tuesday and has a spin-off documentary series set to debut on Showtime on Nov. 12. Getting the 10-hour series on television, says Stone, was no easy feat.

Stations like PBS, for example, he said are "so politicized they can't say anything, they're scared of their own shadow."

He also touched on the idea of "American Exceptionalism" while speaking to Huffington Post, saying, "there's this attitude that we 'deserve' to be in charge. I don't believe in that. . . .We act as if we have this right of kingship, we act as tyrants."
