Steve Harvey had wife Marjorie Harvey’s back for using the word "retarded" in an online video which sparked social media outrage from some, People magazine reported.
“It's a word ain't it?" the "Family Feud" host said in response.
Marjorie Harvey, 53, a fashion and lifestyles blogger, posted the video on Instagram showing her and her 61-year-old husband cutting fruits and vegetables, People said.
"I'm sitting here arguing with my husband, 'cause clearly he thinks I'm retarded (and) I don't know how to cut a beet,' Marjorie Harvey said in the video clip posted on Monday that has been viewed more than 400,000 times.
The word "retarded" has long been scorned in the disabilities community as derogatory and a slur, CNN reported, and in 2012 there was a Special Olympics campaign to help end use of the word.
Numerous people voiced their disapproval on Marjorie Harvey's Instagram page, but her husband jumped to her defense.
"What you trippin' bout cause my wife said the word retarded… it's a word ain't it?" Harvey said, per People. "And she ain't talking bout nobody but herself to me … What she was doing was just that and she ain't saying it bout nobodies baby.”
Harvey found support from many on social media, but others took offense.
