The Republican movement to defund Planned Parenthood has moved from the nation’s capital to the states, where a number of them are taking up the fight, FoxNews.com reported Thursday.

Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Texas are among the states moving to eliminate funds for the agency. A bill sits on the desk of Gov.
Mitch Daniels to cut off $3 million in federal money for the agency.
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback proposed stripping it of $300,000 in federal family planning funds.
The wave to defund the agency took root in the historic gains Republicans made in statehouses and governors’ mansions in the 2010 mid-term elections. Now Republicans in statehouses are flexing their muscles, taking on abortion and providers with new zeal, Planned Parenthood being a main target.
"I think we're in the midst of a wave this year of activism by social conservatives and they not only don't like abortion, they don't like family planning," said Washington, D.C.-based Elizabeth Nash, who tracks state legislation for the Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive-health research organization that supports abortion rights.
