Ron Paul: I'd Have Gone After bin Laden Differently

By    |   Thursday, 12 May 2011 03:04 PM EDT

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a likely Republican candidate for president, says he would have taken a different path against Osama bin Laden than President Barack Obama did. Paul says he would have cooperated with Pakistan’s government to capture the al-Qaida leader, The Hill reports.

"What's wrong with that? Why can't they work with the government?" he told Iowa radio station WHO. Asked whether he would have ordered the same mission as Obama, Paul responded, "Not the way it took place, no." While he is glad to see bin Laden dead, Paul questioned whether the killing has made the United States safer and advocates a withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan.

Paul said a good model for getting bin Laden would have been the operation in which Pakistani intelligence forces nabbed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and then transferred him to U.S. custody.
