Romney Plans National Call Day in Las Vegas

In the money race for the Republican presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney plans to fire off a big round next week bringing around 800 supporters to Las Vegas to place calls around the country looking to raise money. The event, dubbed the National Call Day, will be similar to a daylong fundraiser Romney held during his last campaign, The Boston Globe reported Tuesday.

Romney attracted some 600 to 800 people and raised more than $1 million four years ago at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. This time, his campaign is venturing across the country to the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The invitation to the event said it will start with supporters hopping on the phone around 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time (or 8:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time). An opening ceremony is planned for 8 a.m.

Supporters who make the trip are being offered discounted rates to two of Las Vegas’ most luxurious hotels, The Encore by Wynn, and the Venetian.

Earlier this spring, Romney told prominent GOP fundraisers that his goal was to show in the first federal election campaign reporting period that he has amassed a $50 million campaign war chest in the hopes of scaring off some of the competition in the still crowded Republican presidential field.
