Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s sons are playing “hard to get” this campaign season — at least according to Republican nomination rival Jon Huntsman’s daughters. The three Huntsman girls have been trying to engage the five Romney boys in a little campaign debating via Twitter, but so far the boys haven’t responded, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday.
However, Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s son, Griffin, has, says Liddy Huntsman, who’s been communicating with the 27-year-old Perry boy for a while now.
“It’s been fun going back and forth with him on Twitter,” the 23-year-old Liddy said at forum Monday sponsored by the Boston Herald and University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
The social media-aware daughters have emerged as one of Huntsman’s primary campaign weapons in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Through tweeting and YouTubing, they’ve worked to spread the word about their father’s positions while stressing the weaknesses, as they see them, in his opponents.
For example, they recently criticized Romney for having a limited understanding of China and other foreign policy issues. Huntsman has served as U.S. ambassador to China and to Singapore.
Eating at Panda Express “doesn’t count,” they joked once via Twitter.
They also poked light fun, according to the Herald, at Romney’s “clean-cut” son, Tagg, in an October tweet before the Las Vegas GOP debate. They suggested that he join them at a tailgating party where the “Mormon tabernacle choir can DJ.”
“They won’t respond to us on Twitter . . . I think the Romney boys are trying to play hard to get with us,” said Liddy.
