Michigan Voters Deluged With Robocalls

Michigan residents are being overwhelmed by political robocalls ahead of next Tuesday’s GOP presidential primary — and most are not happy about it, according to the Detroit Free Press. Most of the calls seem to be coming from the Mitt Romney campaign. But Romney’s GOP presidential rival, Rick Santorum, accounts for a fair share, the newspaper reported Wednesday.

 

Obviously, both candidates are looking to lure potential voters to their side. But if the reactions from state residents are any indication, the calls may be hurting more than helping. According to the Free Press, many of the calls are ending up in the homes of Democrats or folks who do not plan to vote in the primary.

 

And many of the Republicans who do get them are turned off, as one told the newspaper, by the “attack ads” they hear when they pick up the phone.

 

The calls are still a nuisance, but they work, according to Michigan political consultant Craig Ruff.

 

“They tick off a lot of people, but [campaigns] wouldn’t use them if they didn’t work,” Ruff told the Free Press.
