A Pleasant View senior citizen calendar is flying off the shelves in Ohio after members of an assisted living facility there bared it all for the photos.
The $12 calendar features a cover shot of three women, ages 87 to 94, with bare shoulders and feet peaking out from behind a banner that reads
“Pleasant View, Pleasant Pointe,” People reported. Other shots include strategically placed props such as oversized cards and exercise equipment.
The banner advertises Pleasant Pointe Assisted Living in Barberton, Ohio, and the affiliated
Pleasant View Health Care Center, The Associated Press reported.
“That morning of the shoot . . . the residents were like 20-year-olds — giggling and having the time of their lives,
Pleasant Pointe administrator Teresa Morris told the Akron Beacon Journal. “I do not believe the elderly should just sit around staring at each other. I want a fun environment where I challenge them and they challenge me. I love supporting their independence and will go above and beyond for each of them.”
One of the participants, 98-year-old Maxine Garden, who posed as Miss January, recently passed away.
Pleasant View receptionist Tina Walker told NBC News that participating in the calendar made the residents feel important.
"They loved it, they absolutely loved it," she said. "It made them feel young."
The calendar has gotten widespread attention. While most of the attention has been positive, some have questioned whether any of the residents were taken advantage of and if they all understood what they were getting into.
