Pierce Brosnan Pleads Not Guilty to Yellowstone Trespassing

By    |   Friday, 19 January 2024 12:04 PM EST

Pierce Brosnan pleaded not guilty to charges of hiking in a restricted area at Yellowstone National Park.

Last year it emerged that the actor received the citation for "foot travel in a thermal area" at the Wyoming park on Nov. 1, according to legal documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times.

TMZ also released a photo of Brosnan, 70, standing on a white formation that looks similar to some of the thermal features found in the park. The image appears to have been deleted.

People magazine, citing court documents, revealed that Brosnan pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The criminal docket filed in December in the U.S. District Court in Wyoming reveals that the "James Bond" actor was cited for traveling by foot "in all thermal areas and w/in Yellowstone Canyon confined to trails" and "violating closures and use limits." Both citations are listed as petty offenses.

As the National Park Service's Yellowstone safety website notes, visitors to the park must "always walk on boardwalks and designated trails" as thermal formations can pose a serious danger. Water from the hot springs "can cause severe or fatal burns, and scalding water underlies most of the thin, breakable crust around hot springs," the website states, further noting that "toxic gases may accumulate to dangerous levels in some hydrothermal areas."

The expansive 2.22-million-acre park is known for its over 10,000 thermal geological features, including geysers, hot springs, and steam vents. More than 20 people have died in thermal features in Yellowstone since 1890, NBC News reported.

Brosnan was in Wyoming in October filming "The Unholy Trinity," predominantly at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley.

The upcoming historical epic stars Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Brandon Lessard, and Ethan Peck. In the movie, Brosnan's character sends his estranged son (Lessard) to take down the person who framed him for a crime he didn't commit.
