Texas Gov. Rick Perry is emphasizing his job-creation record and other credentials earned as the Lone Star State’s top executive — as opposed to attacking his fellow Republican presidential candidates or President Barack Obama — in a new television ad aimed at Iowa voters.
In the 30-second spot that began running Wednesday in Iowa, Perry pledges that he’ll create at least 2.5 million jobs and points to his record in Texas, which he says gained “over 1 million new jobs while the rest of the nation lost over 2 million.”

Perry also promises that, if elected, he would open up more U.S. oil and gas fields to help create even more jobs “and reduce our reliance on oil from countries that hate America.”
A Perry spokesman was quoted in The New York Times as saying the new ad is part of an effort to refocus the governor’s campaign message on “his record as America’s jobs governor.”
