Michael Moore: UC-Davis Is Our Tiananmen Square

Liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore Monday compared the pepper spraying of students at the University of California-Davis last week to the iconic moment in 1989 when a demonstrator was captured in a photo standing in front of a line of tanks in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, according to dailycaller.com.
 

“This is not what’s supposed to happen in the United States of America,” Moore said on MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” referring to an incident in which a UC-Davis police officer casually sprayed a handful of seated protesters with pepper spray.

“The images of this resonated around the world in the same way that the lone young man standing in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square resonated,” said Moore.

“Police departments, even campus police departments, have been turned into armies, they’ve been militarized, mostly through grants from the Department of Homeland Security,” he continued.

Moore predicted that the incident will serve as a galvanizing force that will spread the Occupy Wall Street movement “like wildfire” across U.S. college campuses.

“People will remember months or years from now that UC-Davis was the moment that Occupy Wall Street went to the college campuses,” said Moore.
