More than 20 inches of rain brought devastating flooding to the Florida Panhandle and Alabama Gulf Coast on Wednesday, with Pensacola seeing about a third of its average annual rainfall of 65 inches in just one day.

22 inches and counting by midmorning Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

This is the same that storm system has killed at least 36 people in seven states over the last few days.
Pensacola saw more rain in one hour on Tuesday evening than Hurricane Ivan brought in 2004,
NBC News noted.
Emergency officials in Pensacola, where at least one person was killed, said it is the worst flooding they’ve seen in 30 years. Forecasters, operating without the National Weather Service reporting station because it was knocked out by lightning, predicted rain totals hit a record.
Alabama also saw record flooding.
"As soon as we get a water rescue team in here, they're sent back out. We're rescuing people from cars, from rooftops, from all over the place,” Baldwin County Emergency Management Director Mitchell Sims told the AP. "I think we're going to be dealing with this for days. I don't know where the water's going to go. Everything is saturated."
