Michael Jackson's daughter plays Jesus as a lesbian in an upcoming "Christianophobic" film, and the decision has been met with widespread backlash. Two petitions calling for a block on releasing the movie have been signed by hundreds of thousands of people, who call the film blasphemous.
"A new blasphemous Hollywood film is predicted to come out soon depicting Jesus as a lesbian woman," reads a Change.org petition, which has over 277,000 signatures and was created one week ago. It continues: "The film 'Habit' stars Paris Jackson who plays the role of 'lesbian Jesus.' Distributors haven’t picked it up as of yet, so let’s please spread awareness and wake people up to the Christianophobic garbage that is spread nowadays."
Another petition created by a group called One Million Moms accused the movie, which will also star Gavin Rossdale and Bella Thorne, of ridiculing people of faith and mocking Christianity, USA Today reported. Over 73,000 people have signed the petition.
According to a press release to Entertainment Tonight, "Habit" follows "a street smart, party girl with a Jesus fetish [who] gets mixed up in a violent drug deal and finds a possible way out; by masquerading as a nun."
Producer Donovan Leitch told Fox News that Jackson's Jesus "visits [Thorne's character] on a few different occasions."
He added that filming wrapped up before lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic and explained that "Habit" has been in post-production since April. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
